Commissioner Damato was born in 1952 in New Jersey. He married his wife Patricia in 1975 and has one daughter, Danielle. He is a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church.

After moving to Citrus County in 1971, Commissioner Damato started his self-owned construction company the following year and began building a connection to the growing community. He was a founding director of the Homosassa Springs Chamber of Commerce, later winning the prestigious Pioneer Award for outstanding service to the community for over 25 years. Utilizing his experience in construction, Commissioner Damato was a member of the county's initial Code Enforcement Board. Seeing the need for revitalization in downtown Crystal River, he eagerly accepted his appointment to the city's Community Redevelopment Agency in 1988. Commissioner Damato has served as chairman of the agency continuously since its inception and has guided the administration of over $3 million in grant funding for projects including piers, building facades and streetscapes.

Commissioner Damato's interests and beliefs have always been linked to community preservation, leading him to serve on the Old Courthouse Museum Board of Trustees and as the Board's president for 2003. "I understand the need to preserve the beauty of our natural resources and local heritage," Damato says. "I have also demonstrated the importance of a clear vision for the continued growth of Citrus County."

With his many years of business experience, government service and community enhancement, Commissioner Damato feels he can offer his talents and leadership to the citizens of Citrus County by serving as a commissioner
