Commissioner Thrumston was elected to the Citrus County Board of County Commission for District 4 in November 2006.
As a commissioner, he serves as chair to the District 5 Medical Examiner Advisory Committee and chair of the Public Safety
Coordinating Council. During 2009 he served as Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners. In July 2007 Commissioner
Thrumston was appointed, by the BOCC, to represent Citrus County as a member of the Tampa
Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority (TBARTA). He sits on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for TBARTA.
Commissioner Thrumston, through his leadership, has worked diligently with TBARTA and FDOT to improve Citrus County's
transportation needs and has secured more than $15 million in transportation funds. He also received the Tampa Bay Partnership's
2009 Chair's Cup for Excellence in Regionalism award.
In the community, Commissioner Thrumston serves as a member and past president of Habitat
for Humanity and his involvement has directly resulted in a substantial increase in housing for low-income residents.
Commissioner Thrumston is also a member of the YMCA Steering Committee.
This committee is working toward bringing YMCA to Citrus. Also, the commissioner is involved with the Floral
City Heritage Council, and participates in the Thanksgiving Feeding Alliance's annual food drive during the holiday season to
provide meals to those in need within our community. Commissioner Thrumston has also been involved with various relief efforts,
such as those done for Haiti and for Katrina. The commissioner is an active Honorary Rotarian. In 2004 the Citrus County Chamber
of Commerce honored Commissioner Thrumston with the "Dr. O.J. Humphries Community Service Award" for being the founder
of the Sheriff's Safety for Summer program, which educates youth on how to be safe during the summer. In 2002 he graduated from
Leadership Citrus, an annual program designed to enhance the leadership potential of individuals living in our community.
A Florida native, Commissioner Thrumston, his wife, Kathy, and son, Tyler, moved to Citrus County in 1999. He graduated from
Tarpon Springs High School in 1983 and attended St. Petersburg College where he studied business. After owning an interior design
company in Clearwater, he moved to Floral City and opened an interior design business in Inverness.
Commissioner Thrumston and his family enjoy living in Citrus County. He is very passionate about working toward making Citrus
County a better place to live and appreciates the opportunity to serve as one of your commissioners.
