Planning Division

The Planning Division is responsible for long range planning and growth management activities required by the Growth Management Act. This includes preparation and maintenance of the Citrus County Comprehensive Plan, which establishes goals, objectives, and policies to manage growth and development in Citrus County. The Plan serves as a frame of reference for relating everyday decisions to a carefully considered, unified system of long term policies.

The Comprehensive Plan is the principal vehicle for communicating the legislative body's policies and intentions with respect to the County's future development to private groups, other jurisdictions and agencies, the courts, its own administrative and advisory agencies, and the public at large. Local governments in the State of Florida are mandated to adopt Comprehensive Plans pursuant to Section 163 of the Florida Statutes.

Other program areas include the concurrency management system, flood plain management program, impact fee program, and the Long Range Transportation Plan. The Division coordinates with federal, state and local agencies as needed on land use planning, environmental protection and development issues. Staff assistance is also provided to the Planning and Development Review Board.
