Vision Statement

The Board of County Commissioners maintains two general aviation airports. One on the West Side of the county near Crystal River and one on the East side of the county near Inverness.

The County's Public Works Department is responsible for the general expansion and upkeep of both airports, while Crystal Aero Group, Inc. manages the daily operations of the Crystal River Airport and Owens Air Service, Inc. manages the daily operations of the Inverness Airport.

Both airports are undergoing improvements in regards to safety and meeting the growing needs of the community. The Aviation Projects to upgrade the airports are a joint financial effort of the Federal Aviation Administration, Florida Department of Transportation, and Citrus County. Along with the obvious benefits, aviation plays an important economic role in the community. It has been estimated that the Crystal River Airport alone contributes over ten million dollars annually into the County's economy.  Other benefits include the Sheriff’s and Mosquito Control’s operations, medical evacuations and other medical flights such as organ and patient transports, Division of Forestry fire surveillance, and manatee counts.
