Water unit365 Day Compulsory Connection

On March 23, 1999 the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners adopted Ordinance 99-A10 which reaffirmed the 365-day compulsory water and/or sewer connection requirement contained within the County Codes.

  • The high density of structures on private wells creates a condition of decreasing groundwater quality on both a bacteriological and chemical basis.
  • Private wells are usually not monitored, while the central water supply is routinely monitored to provide water of high consistent quality.
  • Central water is also maintained during electrical outages and emergency conditions which allows service to continue.
  • Connection to central sewer helps eliminate the negative impact that septic tanks pose to the aquifer.

Connection fees are based on (1) Equivalent Residential Units (E.R.U.). An average home equals one Equivalent Residential Unit. The E.R.U. for commercial units are calculated on a case-by-case basis.

  • One Water E.R.U. = $1,435.00
  • One Wastewater E.R.U. = $1,504.00

These fees do not include the final connection from your property line to your home/establishment. This connection will require a licensed plumber.

Breakdown of fees

Connection fees may be structured through an agreement with the County to help defray cost over a period of ten years. Some homeowners may also be eligible for financial assistance through the Citrus County Housing Services Division.
